Proposals for medical services at Lackawanna prison under review

Correctional Care Inc.'s contract at the Lackawanna County Prison will be extended until mid-January while the county reviews proposals from it and two other companies to provide inmate medical services at the jail until 2020. The county prison board voted unanimously Wednesday to recommend a one-month extension with Correctional Care, whose five-year contract with the county was set to expire at midnight on Dec. 14. Moosic-based Correctional Care, which has provided health care services to inmates since 2004, was among three companies that responded to the county's Sept.

Sears Holding has closed hundreds of stores this year and on Thursday said it would close another 45 Kmart stores and 18 Sears locations, with seven closures expected in Pennsylvania. Four Kmart locations will close in Pennsylvania: Clarion, Coraopolis, Moosic and Shamokin Dam.

Phone app foils robbery at Scranton market

Hailey Kraser was talking via the Facetime app to a customer at Price Chopper just before 11 p.m. Friday when she saw a man in the background brandishing a gun and called 911, Officer Eugene Mentz wrote in an incident report. Taylor, Moosic and Old Forge police converged on the 1510 S. Main St. store in Taylor, arrested 43-year-old Scranton resident Anthony Tariq Brown on nearby Kennedy Boulevard and charged him with robbery.

Marshall Dennehey Warner Coleman & Goggin has settled a former associate's ADA lawsuit in arbitration, after she alleged that the firm failed to make accommodations for her fear of riding in an elevator and claustrophobia-related symptoms. In an order Thursday, U.S. District Judge Berle Schiller of the Eastern District of Pennsylvania dismissed Erica Serine's case with prejudice, after sending the case to arbitration two years ago .
